South African batsman - most likely Indian coach

A most unexpected and tricky coach selection by Selection Committee comprising of Sunil Gavaskar, Ravi Shastri and also BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah in New Delhi on Monday. Most probably, Gary Kirsten, a talented South African batsman, will be the successor of Greg Chappell as a Indian Cricket coach.

The 40-year-old left-handed batsman enjoyed a great playing career, playing in 101 Tests and 185 one-day internationals, before retiring in 2004. No doubts, he is one of the most talented consistent stout batsman but limited experience as a coach.

Considering current team of youths and young Indian ODI captain, he may turn out to be great choice. He can more likely act as a mate in dressing room sharing his experience and guiding the youth. Being first assignment as a coach, it feels like, he is not going to approach it like Chapell but planned to coexist with all; that is not ideal but still he may give best and bring about the best results, this is a very sensible strategy indeed.

At the same time, team with players like Sachin, Rahul, Kumble, Saurav who have more or equivalent experience as Kirsten in game of cricket. In a country of cricket lovers, where citizens look forward for their team and expect it to be leading international cricket team. They want to see their team to emerge as a winner in 2011 world cup, to retain T20 cup and move ahead in test ranking. Will someone inexperience can stand to all these expectation?

Anyways, all the experienced people are more than capable of handle experience, they can groom themselves. At this time, it’s more required to groom new players where Gary can really proof his worth. Let’s hope, he can make a difference and deliver it as his powerful shots.
